How useful is organic traffic really?

Check out our calculator to see how organic visits and qualified leads work together. Then explore how many potential enquiries you could be missing.

A traffic graph just tells you how many visitors you attracted—not how effective those visits were.

Before setting a traffic target, work backward from the action that matters to your business. For a service company, that might be a relevant enquiry. For a software business, it could be a demo request or an activated trial. Choose one action and measure it consistently.

Play with it yourself

Everyone loves an interactive graph. Move the sliders and see for yourself how turning visitors into enquiries changes the number of potential sales conversations.

Your traffic, your assumptions.

Estimates from your inputs. Change one assumption at a time to see its effect. No data is sent or saved.

Which assumption matters most?

At 2,000 visits and a 2% enquiry rate, the arithmetic gives you 40 enquiries. If half are qualified, you have 20 relevant conversations to work with. Doubling traffic would double that result only if the enquiry and qualification rates stayed the same.

That condition matters. A broad educational article may attract a different audience from a page explaining your product’s pricing. Extra visits can change the mix of people arriving, so yesterday’s conversion rate may not carry forward.

What does “qualified” mean here?

Define it before reporting results. You might require a company in your service area, a relevant use case, and enough budget for your offer. Count all enquiries separately from those that meet your criteria, so a busy inbox doesn’t hide a poor fit.

Can I use this to calculate revenue?

Not directly. You would also need your close rate, customer value, costs and a suitable time period. An enquiry is not a sale. For a subscription business, first-month revenue and lifetime revenue are different measures and should not be mixed.

Measure the journey, not just the total

Google Search Console can show which queries and pages receive search impressions and clicks. It does not, by itself, tell you which enquiries became customers. Connect that search context with your website’s conversion tracking and your actual sales records.

  • Search: Which pages and queries are bringing people in?
  • Website: Which organic visits lead to the action you chose?
  • Business: Which enquiries are relevant, and which become customers?

Keep definitions and date ranges consistent. A search click and an analytics session are not interchangeable measurements; tracking settings and attribution can create differences.

Choose the next improvement

If relevant pages receive little visibility, investigate search demand, content coverage and technical access. If visits arrive but enquiries don’t, examine the match between the query, page and offer. If enquiries are plentiful but poorly qualified, make your audience, service scope and requirements clearer.

Those are starting points for investigation. Use actual page and enquiry data to decide what to change, then compare results over a meaningful period rather than reacting to a single day.
